The academic artifact I have chosen to speak about is a group video project I edited and directed for my algebra 2 class in the eleventh grade. The goal of the project was to explain something we learned that year. It could have been a music video, skit, or even just a boring video of the person explaining a lesson we had learned. It took a while, but my group and I agreed on an idea. We decided that we would make a skit and teach how to find the slope intercept of a line. The skit would be about a boy who was late to class and missed an important lesson that the class later had to take a test on. The boy later tries to ask for answers from a peer next to him and tries to cheat on the test and ends up getting caught.
I decided to pick this artifact because I had a tremendous role in the development of the video project. For instance, I was the protagonist in the short video. On top of that, I ended up doing all the work since everyone in my group was too lazy to do any work at all, even though we only had an hour left to complete it. This artifact, to me, says that I am a good composer, even under the pressure of having little to no time to work on it. I made sure I was responsible and was the one who got the classroom after I had asked my coach if I could use his class while it was empty. I had to make sure I had to be serious about my grades and was the one who kept having to record multiple scenes several times since my group wasn’t thinking about the severity of the project and kept laughing in them. I was the only person who knew how to edit and ended up editing with almost no time left at all; I added some sound effects and put the videos together. All of these attributes show that I take pride in my work and show that I work hard no matter what obstacles get in my way as a composer. I was quickly feeling very overwhelmed with the amount of work I had left since I was the only one stressing about the grade, but somehow, I got through it and the video did not come out as bad as I thought it would be.
